Another busy term in the HE and Hospitality Department; Year 8’s have consolidated their knowledge of the Eatwell Guide and have looked closely at specific sections, their practical work has really improved and they are definitely ready to move on to more difficult practical work in the New Year. Year 9 have been busy working as New Product Developers, designing a new biscuit product which included packaging and labelling; some students went above and beyond and made their product for the class to taste test, 10/10 all round. Year 10 have completed their log book of skills and undertaken many technical practical’s including Apple Tart and Victoria Sponge Cake, they have mastered many essential cooking and baking techniques this term- keep practising!

We have hosted two School Heat competitions for Springboard Future Chef and The Big School Cook Off. Arved (Year 11 School House) and Jake (Year 8 Price’s) will represent the College in January at the Local Final of the Future Chef competition. James  (Year 8 Dobbin’s) will represent the college in the Irish Big School Cook Off, County Antrim Final in January 2019. This is a fantastic achievement for not only the winners but all the boys who took part. Keep an eye out for another competition in the New Year!

Finally our Hospitality Boys (with a little assistance from some other staff) hosted a fantastic Boarder’s Christmas Dinner. The boys were in charge of table planning, setting, décor, menus and entertainment. The boys were excellent on the night, professional and efficient and were complimented for all their hard work. They have had a long term of event planning and organisation and all the hard work really paid off.

A huge thank you and well done to all the boys for their efforts last term.
