Aims and Objectives
The physical education policy in Campbell College will have a significant part to play in realizing the general school aims, which are:
- To develop the inherent potential of each individual pupil through the provision of a balanced, coherent relevant and broadly based curriculum.
- To prepare students for the demands, opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life and their future careers in a rapidly changing world.
- To develop a corporate identity among pupils, staff, parents and governors as a means to mutual understanding and support
As part of the creative and expressive area of study, Physical Education will offer a broad and balanced curriculum with opportunities for pupils to develop their attitudes and abilities in a range of physical disciplines, games, gymnastics, dance and swimming.
The physical education program aims to:
- Maximize the physical development of each pupil.
- Develop an appreciation of body potential.
- Enable pupils to acquire skills
- Introduce a wide and varied programme of activities, which will include major games, minor games and social skills.
- Promote an awareness of health education through personal hygiene, an appreciation of the dangers of drug abuse and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
- Promote an awareness of the advantages of sporting involvement in a career opportunity situation
- To develop an appreciation of authority and to promote the awareness of the necessity of an ordered society.
- To prepare pupils to make active, creative and purposeful use of their leisure time throughout their lives.
Physical Education in Campbell College
Physical education is compulsory for all pupils in the 11-16 age range and is encouraged in the senior school. Physical education and games whilst separate entities dovetail very closely. Pupils are afforded a generous allocation of time to pursue the wide and varied program of activities within the Physical Education and games program.

Programme of Study
Education establishments are now asked to mirror the demands of the modern work place to those subjects offered to the pupils. Sport and leisure increasingly offer many varied opportunities for employment; and the PE department has responded by introducing GCSE, AS and A2 Physical Education, as well as applied leisure studies to give pupils a thorough grounding in this developing area.
Facilities
The facilities available to the pupils are very extensive, all enclosed within the grounds of the school campus:
- Two Astroturf hockey pitches and one all weather hockey pitch
- Ten rugby football pitches.
- Five cricket squares.
- Six outdoor cricket nets
- One cross country course.
- Four tennis courts.
Furthermore a sports centre contains:
- a sports hall - 4 badminton courts, volleyball court, basketball court & a 5-a-side football pitch.
- 25 meter swimming pool.
- conditioning room.
- 3 squash courts.
The new middle school building contains a hall designed to cater for the needs of Campbell Junior and Middle School. It can cater for basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and badminton.

Stephen Collier

Robin Gordon (Swimming Supervisor)
- Administered the Swimming Pool for last 6 years.
- Water polo coach and referee certificate.
- Advanced IASA swimming teacher.
- Represented Ireland at water polo and life saving.
