English
The English Department at Campbell College aims to aid the development of the communication skills of each of the boys whether it be through talking and listening, reading, and writing. We provide a supportive and encouraging learning environment and try not to lose sight of the fact that learning should be fun.
Each boy has six periods of English at Key Stage 3 and at GCSE boys have the choice of taking a combined English Language and Literature course or an English Language and Journalism course. At A Level boys study a variety of texts from across the cannon of English Literature.
We believe that both reading and taking responsibility for one’s own learning are of vital importance to our students and accordingly we encourage the boys to make use of the library through our weekly library periods and by encouraging them to access the resources stored in the library for their use.
Campbell College has recently become the first Cambridge International Examination Centre in Northern Ireland and we are now in a position to offer International GCSE in English as a Second language to our pupils from overseas .

Facilities and Resources
The English at is housed in seven classrooms in Ormiston. Each classroom is equipped with a C2k linked computer and multi-media projector. The department is well resourced in terms of books, text and novels, ICT and DVD resources.
Increasingly the department is developing the use of ICT as a valuable teaching resource and we are able to make regular use of the College’s many Computer Suites.
