History & Politics : home
The aim of the History and Politics Department at Campbell is to encourage boys to enjoy the study of these subjects and to pursue them as part of a life of learning.
In History we aim to allow students to experience as wide a range of historical periods as possible. This includes medieval history such as the Norman Conquest, the English Civil War in the early modern period and World War One and Nazi Germany in the late modern period.
In Politics we focus on the UK and US Political systems, comparing them in Year 14. Courses are heavily skills based, attempting to create good historians who are flexible and capable of using a variety of media, including ICT, who enjoy learning actively and who can work independently.

Facilities and Resources
The department is exceptionally well resourced to meet the demands of the modern curriculum and students. Every room is equipped with a computer linked to the Internet. Audio – visual resources include video and DVD linked in to ceiling mounted multimedia projectors. There is a considerable and constantly updated departmental library reflecting the most recent research on the topics covered. This is supported by a programme of visiting speakers which in recent years has included Professor Sir Ian Kershaw in History and Professor Paul Bew in Politics. The department is also keen to promote ‘lived’ History through field trips including to the First World War battlefields and Berlin.
