Aims
The aims of the Music Department are twofold, embracing both the academic and applied aspects of music education. Academically our aim is to deliver excellent results at GCSE and AS/A2 levels while nurturing talent that will enable boys to participate fully in the activities we offer such as Choir, Orchestras and a variety of Ensembles. An extensive Associated Board Music Examination programme is also on offer, helping to provide a structure which enables the boys to progress in their musical studies.

Facilities and Resources
The Music Department although currently situated in one of the oldest parts of the School (New House – completed in 1902) endeavours to try and keep in touch with the changing nature of music in the digital age. In addition to a Music Classroom, used by Junior School and Year 8 boys, we have two Music Technology Suites for delivery of the Music curriculum to Year 9 and above and a small recording studio for A level students. Another four teaching rooms (for individual music lessons) and two practice rooms, all with their own piano, complete the Department’s accommodation.
In 2006 the following activities are on offer:
- Junior Orchestra (Monday after school)
- Senior Orchestra (Tuesday after school)
- Jazz Orchestra (Friday after school)
- School Choir (Monday & Tuesday before school)
- Chamber Choir (Wednesday & Thursday before school)
- Clarinet ensemble (occasional lunchtimes)
- Brass ensemble (occasional lunchtimes)
Junior School activities include School Choir and Band and Instrumental ensembles.
