Physics : home
Physics is a science that pervades and influences many aspects of our everyday life, impacting both directly and indirectly on lifestyles. The concepts, disciplines and skills learned in this subject are transferable to many other subjects and areas of life beyond school.
In Years 8 and 9 we contribute to a combined science programme while in year 10 physics is taught as a separate discipline.
Aims
- To provide a stimulating environment for students to learn in
- To help students gain an appreciation of the contribution physics has made and continues to make to the world around them
- To assist students in realising their full potential, no matter at what level they decide to terminate their study of the subject
- To develop the practical and written skills associated with investigative work
- To assist students in recognising and constructing balanced scientific arguments using a range of information sources
Staff
- Mr W J McKee (Head of Department)
- Mr R J S Taylor
- Mr M Carville
- Mrs C Crozier
- Mr G Walls (Technician)
Facilities and Resources
Each member of the department has their own teaching laboratory that is equipped with a C2k linked computer and data projector. In addition the department is well equipped with specialist up-to-date equipment that students are encouraged to use when and where possible.
The wide-ranging nature of Physics automatically includes many cross-curricular links and these are connections we would always wish to explore and develop when possible.
Because of the very extensive use of physics principles in everyday life it enjoys many positive connections with a wide range of other curricular subjects, extending from the world of theoretical science to the vocational.
