Academic : Preps 5-7
Building Independence Through Learning
At Key Stage Two, Preps 5-7, the curriculum becomes much more exacting. Alongside the demands of fractions and percentages, the boys take part in a varied programme of learning and activity.
Modern Languages (French, German and Spanish) are taught throughout Key Stage Two; initially, in the form of songs and games then progressing to role-plays and simple conversations by Prep 7.
ICT is incorporated into all subjects, and boys make extensive use of the ICT suite. Technology and Design is also a popular Prep 7 subject.
Specialist teachers from the College instruct Games, PE, Art, Music and Modern Languages. Drama is also timetabled each week and boys are given the opportunity to perform in adventurous productions.
A full programme of homework is set for boys in Preps 5-7 and parents receive details of this early in the Christmas Term. Parents are asked to check their son’s Homework Diary every Thursday and sign it in preparation for staff checking on Friday.
Progress cards are issued at the end of each half term. Effort grades, for which House points are awarded with an explanation of grades, are recorded on all Progress Cards.
In the 2011 Key Stage Two Assessment, the percentage of boys who achieved Level Five in Maths was twice the Northern Ireland average and a magnificent three times the Northern Ireland average in English.
