Junior School vs Sullivan Prep
Both the A and B Under 11 Rugby Teams travelled away to play Sullivan Prep Monday 10 March, with the hope of continuing their success against of two weeks previous. On a waterlogged and muddy pitch the boys performed with great courage and determination against a much bigger and more physical side. The conditions suited the home side better as they stuck the ball up the jersey and simply ran into our boys. Within 3 minutes the A team were trailing by 3 tries, but credit should be given to the players for the guts and determination shown as they clawed back into the game with a try of their own. Unfortunately as time progressed, the conditions began to take their toll and the boys were unable to express themselves with the running rugby they are so capable of playing. Man of the Match was awarded to George Piggot, for his fearless tackling and his handling technique of a very slippery ball. The final score was 4-1 to Sullivan.
In stark contrast, the B-side was able to display some beautiful lines of running courtesy of Matthew Hamill and devastating tackling by Harry Dobbs. I was particularly happy with the effort put in by the team as the forwards and backs combined beautifully to create some wonderful scoring opportunities. Special mention should be made of Joshua Catherall and Ross Magee for their excellent work in the ruck and maul. To have a squad with such strength in depth is a great comfort for any coach and all of the players involved gave notice that they have the talent to be on the A’ team. Man of the Match had to be shared by Matthew Hamill and Ethan Fleck the latter of which led the team by example with some bone shattering tackling. The final score was 15-0 to CCB Junior School.
