St.Michaels v CCJS Junior XI
(Belfast League Fixture)
It was a very wet and windy day at Ormeau Playing Fields; pools of water could be seen in the goalmouth. The ball seemed to be attracted to these areas and at times the game resembled a water polo game! CCJS played with the wind in the first half and the advantage became evident: Worley broke the offside trap on at least two occasions and was heading toward goal only to be thwarted by some heroic defending. Subsequent corners by Park wrought havoc in the St. Michaels 18 yard box. At times CCJS moved the ball with a degree of finesse, good interplay between Owens and MacGrath served to set Osborne free on the right. The opposition keeper plucked the resulting crosses out of the air with a degree of difficulty. CCJS broke the deadlock on the 20 minute mark after a free kick by Miley saw the keeper save the ball only to see it fall onto Owens head, he put it into the net with ease.
Second Half
An altogether different affair: defend, defend and defend some more was the order of the day. The wind and rain served to barricade the CCJS team into their own half. The pressure mounted and St. Michaels looked likely to score, it was a matter of when and how. They pressed and pressed looking for a weakness in the defence, CCJS players did all they could. Some timely tackles by Butler, Miley and Brown served to keep CCJS in the lead. The equaliser came via a shot from outside the box, the ball moved in the air and nestled only marginally over the line. Ellis was unfortunate in goal, his saves and commanding air in the box had kept St. Michaels at bay for so long. In a race against time substitutes were made and after gaining a corner the subsequent ball into the box fell to Fleck who somehow or other managed to pick out the top corner of the St. Michael net and place the ball right into it. The score was now 2-1 to CCJS, in many ways a snatch and grab goal. All had a cold, wet, windy and enjoyable afternoon.

Junior XI Northern Ireland Cup Campaign:
Dromore P.S. 2-6 C.C.J.S. Junior XI
Campbell College Junior School began their 2006-2007 Northern Ireland Cup campaign in style, winning 6-2 away from home. The match was played at Dromore Leisure Centre on a rather large pitch. The game was all but over by half-time after a flurry of goals from Patrick Park who managed to net a hat-trick in the the first 25 minutes. Gary Worley chipped in with a goal in the first half to make it 4-0 to the visitors. Dromore put up a valiant display but could not cope with the high tempo pressure game played by Campbell College. Dominic MacGrath was superb in the middle of the park winning every tackle and every header, most good play came through Dominc in the first half.
The second half was a much tighter affair with Dromore grabbing two goals, one from open play and one from the penalty spot. Campbell College was caught napping at the start of the second half and almost self destructed. Team captain Jack Owens enthused and demanded more from his players; after adding two more goals through MacGrath and Miley the team played possession football to close out the game.
C.C.J.S: Ellis, Gwynne (Thompson 40), Miley, Brown, Butler, Hamill (Fleck 40), MacGrath, Owens (capt.), Osborne, Park, Worley (Nangle 40)

Methody Preps 3 v 3 CCJS Junior XI
This was the second game in two days for the Junior XI. It was yet another wet and windy day, this time the venue was Pirrie Park. The game kicked off at 3.00pm with CCJS playing into the wind and up the slight incline. It wasn’t long before Methody piled on the pressure. The first ten minutes of the game saw Campbell struggle to find their way, thankfully Methody were unable to take advantage of the sluggish opening. The previous days exercise was telling and it was very much against the run of play when Osborne made a dash down the right flank, into the box and slipped the ball under the goalkeeper into the net. Methody came back strongly and grabbed an equaliser before long. The pitch was sticky and the passing game came difficultly for CCJS. Owens preferred to run with the ball through the middle of pitch and past numerous Methody boys before a fantastic strike from outside the box nestled in the bottom corner of the goal. At this Methody seemed to drop their heads and third goal was not long in coming, some good play down the left saw Hamill get into the box. He threw the defender one-way and then the next; Hamill ended up on the ground and ‘penalty’ was the cry. The decision given, Owens stepped up and put the ball in the bottom right. 3-3 at half time.
Half-time
I am not sure what the Methody coach at half time said but I would like his script. The home team came out all guns blazing after the interval. They had levelled the score with two fantastic strikes within 5 minutes. It was the turn of CCJS to look shocked. To their credit the team held together and managed to hold on for a draw. The only attacking of any note in the second half came through Park and Worley who both had chances to finish off the game, it was not to be and a draw was a fair result at the final whistle.

Football trials beckon for CCJS pupils
Congratulations toJack Owens, Conor Miley and Patrick Park who have been selected to attend a preliminary trial for the Belfast Primary Schools representative team.
This team travels to Scotland each year to play in a tournament against other representative teams. Last year, Ross Clarke was selected from CCJS to attend the trial; and he subsequently was picked to play in the team. This year’s hopefuls have already brought honour on themselves and the School in their selection.
The trial will be held at the Ormeau Playing Fields, Ormeau Embankment on Wednesday 27th December from 10.00am-12.00noon. We wish them all the best!

Under XI Football Team played against Methody Prep in a very exciting and goal filled match. Methody scored first and then it was up to the boys to fight back, a great goal from Lewis Nangle brought us level. Then Methody scored again but we replied with a strike from Patrick Osbourne. Methody scored another two goals and we had a super last goal from Patrick Park. Conor Miley and Harry Dobbs had good strong performances in defence. I would like to thank Mr Styles for refereeing the match.
