Dance Project: Closing the GapDance United Northern Ireland in association with Dance coaches Alan Clarke, Mags Byrne and Anthea McWilliams have been involved with the ‘Closing the Gap’ Dance Project. The Project has involved P7 pupils from Elmgrove Primary School, Year 14 students from Ashfield Girls’ School, Campbell College and a group of Senior Citizens working together at they explore the social and cultural context of the1940’s in terms of dress costume, music, food, film and employment. Year 14 students from Ashfield Girls’ and the College have worked together through the medium of dance and the fine art of ballroom dancing. Their efforts culminated in ‘An Evening Celebration of Dance’ at the Culloden Hotel on 12 March with a 1940’s style band and costumes defining the gathering. The event organisers complimented our students on their positive attitude and respectful behaviour throughout the Project; the quality of their dancing was also a source of delight to spectators. |
