Ulster Closed Junior Championships
The Ulster Junior Closed Squash competition was held in Lisburn at the beginning of February and six Campbell College pupils attended this competition and the standard of squash played was of a very high order.
Ben Craig, Yr 13 Price’s, has now moved up to the U19 age range and managed to beat seasoned players to take the U19 trophy. His brother Michael, Year 9, was entered into the U17 age group and played some very hard games against players much older. He also managed to win his section of the competition.
Chris Morrow, Yr 9 Chase’s, who represented Ulster in the U13 team last year now qualifies for the U15 section. He came runner up in this section, which is highly commendable given that he too has had to make the transition from U13 to play against much more experienced players.
A new player to the world of squash competitions, Konrad Stinston, Yr 9 Dobbin’s , took on the seeded ranks of the U13 Ulster squad and managed to win every one of his matches to take the U13 trophy- much to his obvious delight!
Two other players fought some very hard battles in some difficult draw situations to take 4th and 6th places in their sections. David Mitchell and Jack Sterrit are to be congratulated on their stoic performances.
Overall a very exciting weekend for squash in the Ulster Junior arena and for Campbell College players.
