Ulster Junior Closed Competition
The Ulster Junior Closed competition took place on Saturday and Sunday 30th and 31st January. All young squash players from within Northern Ireland were invited to play.
Of the 35 male entrants 8 were boys who attend Campbell College – almost a quarter.
Thomas Gillen from Junior School (Prep 7) came fourth in his section and has been invited to join the Talent ID training squad which is coached on Monday’s after school.
Philip Brady, Yr 9 Dobbin’s, and George Piggot, Yr 8 Chase’s, took part in the under 13 section of the competition. Philip has just started squash in September and performed very well to attain seventh place. George managed to see off the top two seeded players in Ulster in a very business like fashion and was the over all winner in this section.
Competing in the U15 section, Jack Sterrit, Davis’s, Chris Morrow, Chase’s, and Josh McVeigh, Alden’s, all in Year 10, played and conducted themselves extremely well and managed to be placed third, fourth and seventh respectively.
Michael Craig, Price’s, playing in an age group above his own, won the U17 cup with ease.
Adam Morris, Dobbin’s was up against some very stiff, high ranking U19 players and played some impressive hard hitting squash. Adam finished third in the competition and is now back on the Ulster squad for another season
Altogether a very creditable performance and an enjoyable weekend of squash was had by all.
