Craig brothers squash the opposition
Craig brothers, Ben and Michael, travelled to Hungary at the end of November to take part in the Hungarian Open Squash tournament.
In Ben’s group of 32 he managed to make it to the quarter finals where he was beaten by a Swedish player who went on to take third place in the U17 section. Ben, Year 12 Price’s, is now ranked 143rd in this category in Europe
Michael, Year 8 Ormiston, competed against 15 players in the U13 section and was placed second. He has now earned a ranking of No. 8 in Europe. This fantastic result came after he won the U13 section in the Ulster Junior Open competition in mid October
Both are currently training hard with the squash coach Martin Woods who is grooming players for the next Commonwealth Games. We were fortunate to have Martin attend a coaching session here in October where he met both Junior and Senior players.
Furthermore, six Year 8 pupils from the Junior Squash Club attended the first Ulster Junior Squash Grand Prix at Lisburn Racquets Club. This provided a forum to assess the quality and quantity of young players in schools and clubs in NI. Each pupil had to play 5 matches in his group. Christopher Morrow, Glenmachan, came first in his group. The other players played exceptionally well and were a credit to themselves and CCB. Another Grand Prix will be held in January and we hope to take a larger squad of players from both the Junior and Senior Clubs.
