A fine, bright Saturday morning, a large crowd and a beautiful playing surface made for an excellent Schools` Cup quarter-final occasion
In the first half, RBAI established a comfortable lead and this was to become the platform upon which they built a successful second half defensive display.
During the first ten minutes of the match, both teams played some constructive attacking rugby, but single tries to each side were created by a combination of opportunism and defensive error. For Campbell, Ben McDonnell crossed the Inst line. Stalemate then ensued until with ten minutes left in the half, disastrously for us, RBAI crossed our line three times. 22-5.
The second half saw each side kick a penalty, ours by James McKinney, but the opposition`s efficiency at the breakdown and their general defensive organisation prevented Campbell from taking advantage of good field position and possession. Close to crossing their line on a number of occasions, we just lacked the precision and composure required to convert pressure into points. The final whistle confirmed a very disappointing 25-8 defeat.
