Rosslyn Park National Seven's Tournament: The World's Largest Rugby Tournament
Campbell College's U13 sevens squad travelled to Roehampton to compete in the Juniors Tournament of the world's largest rugby competition, despite the breadth of the tournament CCB were the only school from Ireland competing. In the first group match we encountered Brasov, a side from Romania, and managed to emerge victorious, 29-14; the second group game was a fairly comfortable affair with a win against Bishop's Stortford, 24-0.
The weather deteriorated rapidly as rain, hail and snow descended to cut short the first day of the tournament. At the Group Winners stage on the morrow, London Oratory stood between our U13s and a place in the final 16.
At half-time we were losing 12-0, in injury time we were winning 14-12, only to lose possession and the match in the final play of the contest. A salutary experience; however, overall, the squad gave a fine account of their rugby ability and Rob Haldane finished with 8 tries to his name. Thanks in parting went to Mr. Colin Farr and Mr. Bert Robinson for leading this foray into the heart of English and world rugby. We will return.
