All Blacks : Rugby World Champions
The world's best teams have been in Belfast from the end of March and Campbell College has been fortunate to host the New Zealand team as they prepared for the IRB U19 Rugby World Championships.
The New Zealand squad, ranked as second seeds, made full use of the College's sporting facilities including: conditioning suite, sports hall, astro turf pitches and swimming pool as well as lining out on Fox's Field.
The squad of 27 players and 8 managers were guests at assembly on Thursday 19 April; Coach Kieran Crowley and Captain Chris Smith, presented the College with a signed shirt and All Blacks plaque. In return, Mr. Piggot presented a commemorative plaque to the team.
New Zealand, having played the most exciting, skilful and powerful running rugby in the Championship, scored more than 200 points and won all their matches and faced South Africa in the final at Ravenhill. They thrashed the South Africa pack 31-7 and deservedly claimed the Championship title.
