News summer 2006-07:International GCSE
In May last year Campbell College was accepted by Cambridge University International Examinations to become one of their Examination Centres in order to offer International GCSE in English as Second Language. As a result, our first group of overseas, non-native speakers of English have now completed the exam
The Speaking Paper was daunting as the candidates had to talk on different subjects at length, and everything they said was recorded and the tapes sent to Cambridge for assessment. The Reading and Writing Paper included texts on a range of different international topics, and the candidates also had to write a letter, an article and a summary. The Listening Paper was the most difficult one. Extracts included different dialects of English which made it all the more challenging!
The IGCSE in ESL (English as a second language) is accepted and recognised by a large number of universities around the world, and is a key qualification for meeting entry requirements. Results will be issued in August.
