News summer 2006-07:Silver & Gold Wings
Stephen Dougherty, Year 12 Price’s, is the first student in five years to achieve Silver Wing status from Newtownards Flying School. This award is made after a solo flight for ten minutes and usually following weeks of training; Stephen was successful after seven days! Furthermore, Newtownards Flying School have invited Stephen to be an adult instructor, at only 16 years of age this is a remarkable achievement.
Not satisfied with his Silver Wing status, the talented Stephen has achieved his Gold Wings from Newtownards Gliding Club (VGS) on 17 June. He achieved this after flying solo (5 circuits) for a total of 30 minutes. Stephen has been attending the gliding school for five months (once a week). During this period he has received excellent tutelage and has developed his flying expertise. His landing was executed with the precision of a pro and, subsequently, he was awarded with his Gold Wings.
This accolade reflects positively on Stephen and upon the Campbell College CCF (RAF Section). The gliding school normally awards Gold Wings once a year. This is the first time in Campbell history that such an award has been made.
