News summer 2006-07:
Speech Day: 29 June 2007
Our chief guest at Speech Day was Dr Christopher Young; an Old Campbellian who is now Fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge and Senior Lecturer in German. During his time at Campbell, Dr Young was Head of Allison’s House, and was awarded colours for squash and athletics. He left Campbell in 1986 with 11 O levels (GCSE’s) at A grade and 4 A Levels also at A grade, and went on to obtain a first class honours degree in Modern & Medieval Languages at Cambridge University.
Dr Young has written many books and articles mainly on German language, culture and society; his writing has extended to the rivalry between England and Germany in the World Cup. He has travelled extensively throughout America and Europe giving lectures and seminars; the audience much enjoyed his address and, indeed, his return with his wife, Angela, to his old school.
Guests enjoyed tea and strawberries and the Pipe Band called this year’s formalities to a close.
