Students work on display at Belfast City Hall
Our English, History and Art Departments joined forces in a Titanic Project; the work produced was of such a high standard that it was showcased as part of a Titanic Festival held in the Belfast City Hall.

This year, in school, we did a project in History, English and Art about the Titanic. I especially enjoyed the art as we had to draw the ship in a variety of different angles. Everyone in my class drew one for homework and class work. In the homework version, I sketched the outline of the boat first then shaded it with colours after, it was good fun. I loved the class work one the most as we drew it with wax crayons first and then layered it with paint, the end result was better than I expected. I was really lucky to have this chance to learn this new art technique. All the artwork was then presented in the City Hall to celebrate the centenary of this most famous ship which was built in Harland and Woolfe Belfast.. Mrs Crooks said that our art was great and told us that the many visitors to the exhibition commented on the outstanding artwork on display. I was proud to represent Campbell College.

Over the past few months year eight have been studying the Titanic. In English we had all produced an essay pretending we were on the Titanic and survived. This could have been written in the form of a diary or some one remembering it today. In year eight history we were told the order of events and we discussed if more people could have been saved and how .In our art class we each chose a picture of the Titanic and drew it onto paper then coloured it in with fabric crayons. An iron was used to transfer the image onto a piece of cloth. Then with a very steady hand we applied glitter-glue, this is like a glittery paste. I think other year eight classes did their pictures with other styles (e.g. chalk). I really enjoyed this art project and am looking forward to doing something similar to this in the future. All the Titanic portraits were put on display in the City Hall.

Just before the Easter holidays Year 8 learnt about the Titanic in three different subjects. In English, History and Art separate projects were carried out. In our art class every pupil was asked to produce their own piece of art work to show the Titanic on its maiden voyage. My class used wax crayons and an ink wash. It made the sea look very realistic and was very easy and fun to do. I was really pleased with my work and delighted that it was put on display in the City Hall in an exhibition to celebrate the anniversary of the Titanic. This is certainly the most famous ship that was built in Belfast.
