News : Cambridge International Examination Centre
Campbell College has recently been recognised as a Cambridge International Examination Centre.
We now offer our overseas students the International GCSE in English as a Second Language. This exam is recognised by a large number of universities in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia as evidence of adequate competence in English for university entrance purposes. The main difference between the IGCSE in ESL and the "ordinary" GCSE in English is simply that the IGCSE is not as culturally contextualised, and thus gives our non-native speakers a valid and fair chance of passing. The exam is taken in Year 12 or 13.
We are proud that we have been recognised by Cambridge University International Examinations as fulfilling the requirements to become one of their IGCSE Centres.
Furthermore, in Years 13 and 14 we offer all our overseas students the possibility of doing the IELTS exam (International English Language Testing System) at Queen's University or at the British Council in Hong Kong for our Chinese students. This is currently one of the most popular exams for foreign speakers of English and is recognised as a satisfactory requirement of entry to universities worldwide.
It is our overall aim that all our non-native speakers of English will leave Campbell College with a valid and recognised qualification in English, which will not only grant them entry into tertiary education, but will be of significant importance as part of their professional future.
