News : IHA Schools' Tournament
The College welcomed sixteen schools from across Ireland in the 3-day Irish Hockey Association Schools’ Tournament at the end of October. The addition of the new all-weather surfaces has enhanced the College’s sporting provision and enabled us to entertain such prestigious events as this.
The tournament was well contested, with Campbell securing victory over Bangor Grammar School (2-0) and The King’s Hospital (3-0) before facing Bandon Grammar School; a well played game by the Campbell team who were unfortunate to lose in the last minutes of play (2-3).
In the semi-finals, Banbridge Academy vs. Cookstown High School; this finished 3-3 and Banbridge won on penalty strokes and in the other semi-final RBAI vs. Bandon Grammar School which finished 2-2 with RBAI winning on penalty strokes.
The final was a very exciting game (RBAI vs. Banbridge Academy) which ended 4-4 at the end of normal time. Banbridge won by a 'golden goal' which means the side which scores in extra time wins the match - a sort of sudden death.
