The school grounds were bought by the Trustees of Henry James Campbell in 1890 and the College opened in 1894. The Cabin Hill site was purchased in 1924 and after some disposals the existing site totals some 100 acres. The main and some outlying buildings are listed by the Environment and Heritage Service and the importance of our heavily wooded site is emphasised by a protection order on our trees.
The original building is fully used and is the focal point of our school day. It is complemented by three further buildings which house our classroom facilities, the largest of which was opened in 2004, and a sports complex which comprises a large sports hall, swimming pool and squash courts. Included in the facilities are five IT rooms, a Design and Technology Centre, a new purpose-built Art Department and a Drama Theatre. Our new Preparatory Department (Junior School) was opened in June 2006 and is proving to be a great success having moved from its original site at Cabin Hill. The Governors constantly review the College’s existing provision and its future requirements.
The College is blessed with exceptional playing facilities. In addition to 10 rugby pitches and five cricket squares, two new synthetic sports pitches were opened in March 2006 and these have proved to be an immense improvement to our sporting infrastructure. Two new changing facilities have recently been completed and a new athletics track will be operative in spring 2007.
