Below is a basic list of items which each boarder should initially bring to school when joining the Boarding Department:

The beds are standard single in size therefore all standard single bed linen will fit. Items marked with a hashtag # are essential and will be provided by the College at a charge if not supplied.

It is important he feels comfortable in his room so please do bring whatever he wishes, many students do bring items from home to make their space feel a little more homely for example posters, photos and LED lights. These items are all welcome, and might help to ease any homesickness. Should you wish to order any items for your son's room to be delivered to the College in advance, please do so and mark for your son’s attention c/o Mr Bert Robinson. If you prefer to purchase the items when you arrive (e.g. bedlinen etc.), there is a large Tesco store and Ikea a short distance away.

The beds are standard, single beds and therefore any single bedlinen will fit. 

It is not recommended nor encouraged that a student holds significant quantities of money at any time.

In each House there is a House Safe and the facility for staff to hold Pocket Money for any student – and the student can be given money from his funds at any time as recommended/advised by the parents.

It is however strongly advised that each student opens a Bank Account where better accountability can be managed from home. The College is able to help in the opening of a Bank Account by providing the student with a Letter confirming that the student is a boarder in the College, as necessary. The opening of a Bank Account has not proven to be a challenge – but it generally happens by prior appointment. Many parents now use Revolut or Monzo to transfer money to their son. 

 

We refer you to the separate uniform and kit list above. The clothing list is by no means exhaustive and our experience has been such that all families have slightly variant ideas.  It is very much a ‘basics’ list, mindful that you will be aware of your son’s clothing habits beyond the school day better than us.  Clothing is laundered for the students twice weekly, and we therefore stress the need for ALL clothing to be clearly labelled with your son’s name (sorry!).

School Uniform Pre-Order Facility

The shop will be open from Monday 7th August - Wednesday 30th August (weekdays only from 9.00am-4.30pm, closed from 1-1.30pm for lunch). No appointment is necessary but please do allow adequate time for your visit. Alternatively, if you know what sizes are required, you may prefer to place an order via the College website https://www.campbellcollegeshop.co.uk/shop. Orders can then be collected when you arrive at the College. It will be possible to exchange or return any items that do not fit. Every item of clothing including casual wear should be individually named. Ideally name tapes should be used, these can be purchased online. Please send spare name tapes with your son for future items.

All textbooks are provided. Students in Years 8-10 receive a stationery pack which is charged to your bill.  

We recommend all students bring a pencil case with basic items e.g. pens, pencils etc. The School Uniform shop also sells stationery and any other items can be purchased as they go along, or at the weekly Tesco trip.  

The College has its own laundry where staff wash and iron items of clothing and bedding which are left in by the students. Each House/ Year group has a day of the week upon which laundry is cleaned and pressed by our Laundry Team. Boarders also have access to washing machines within the boarding house.

Pupils must sign their passport over to their Housemaster on arrival. This will then be stored together with their Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) if applicable or other important documents in the House safe. These items will be signed in and signed out by both the Housemaster/Housemother and pupil.

It is vital that you keep in regular contact with your son. Most students have their own mobile phone and this is a convenient way to contact them; however, we ask that parents only contact their sons during ‘free’ time and not during class or prep times. Parents/Guardians are welcome to ring the boarding department, but please do not ring during prep or after bedtime unless in an emergency (contact numbers are given in the 'Key Contacts' section). Internet access is also available at the College for skype/zoom/Facetime calls. 

Parents and Guardians are welcome to visit at any stage, but we would ask that you contact a member of boarding staff in advance. The Boarding Department has a fob-entry system, and every student has their own fob that only allows access into designated areas. Boarding Staff will need to provide access to the Boarding Department. 

All medication including ‘household medicines’ brought into school MUST be registered with the Matron, and will be held in the Medical Centre. It is the school’s policy that boarders do not self-medicate, under any circumstances. On arrival, please declare medication.

Extra-curricular activities normally begin towards the end of September once term is underway. Pupils are given information via Firefly and the Daily Bulletin as to when a society/club begins and how to join in.  

The Music Department in Campbell College offers tuition to pupils through a Private Instrumental Teaching Scheme. This scheme is open to ALL pupils, including those who have never played before.

Pupils who embark on the school’s Instrumental Scheme are withdrawn from a different class each week for their lesson, and a rotation system operates to ensure that the pupil will not miss the same class each week.

The Private Instrumental Teaching Scheme (up to diploma level) requires parents to pay for individual lessons in advance. Lessons are payable in ten week blocks, and are invoiced via Parent Mail. Each 30 minute lesson costs £15.00 (£150.00 for ten lessons).

Instruments available on this scheme are: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French horn, Trombone, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double bass, Piano, Singing, Percussion (including Drum Kit), Pipes and Guitar.

The College is able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements. Parents/Guardians should discuss particular requirements with the Head of Boarding who will liaise with the Catering Manager.

Your son's Housemaster/mistress will be the main point of contact for you and they will introduce themselves to you in advance of your child joining the School.
