Library

Our library truly is the heart of the school. Located next to our central hall, the library is staffed by a professional librarian, and provides a safe and welcoming haven as well as over 15,000 resources to inspire our pupils.

Our library, refurbished and opened in 2010, provides an ideal environment to encourage independent study and a love of reading. Comfortable seating, well lit and spacious desks, and a calm and friendly atmosphere encourage our pupils to continue to use the library during their free time to read, play a wide range of board games, study and seek advice.

The resources are arranged over two floors. Junior fiction, biographies and a wide range of non-fiction can be found on the ground floor, along with newspapers, periodicals and study space. The mezzanine has study space and comfortable seating reserved for Sixth Form pupils, and also holds our senior fiction stock, graphic novels and manga, and a collection of resources relating to the college. We have 6 computers, a mono multi-functional device that allows pupils to print, scan and copy, and the library is also fully networked for WiFi. Our library catalogue, Eclipse, is accessible through the MySchool portal, and contains details of all resources held.

The library organises a wide range of activities throughout the year in order to help promote literacy and reading for pleasure, including author visits, book groups and participation in book awards. As well as this, we support the development of independent learning and information literacy skills through a programme of classes for sixth formers run in conjunction with our careers department.

The library is open daily during term time from 8.30am – 4.30pm (3.30pm on Thursdays).
